Guide
How does age verification work in unattended retail?
In uNobo Connect it is only asked when an age-restricted product goes into the cart: the customer verifies with their face and ID document using their phone camera, and you pay per use. What can be sold, and how, is set by each country’s regulation.
uNobo Connect is an automated 24-hour retail operating system: it joins payment, machine and operator panel in one unattended business and leaves a clear trail of every sale.

| Aspect | How it works |
|---|---|
| When it is asked | Only if the cart has a product you have marked as age-restricted. Not at the door, and not for other purchases. |
| How it is done | Facial recognition and an identity document, with the customer’s phone camera, inside the store in the browser. Nothing to install and no reader on the machine. |
| On every purchase | Each purchase with a restricted product opens a new verification: there is no reusable credential. |
| Cost | Available from START, with no fee. You pay per use, for each verification. The amount is not in the public tariff: ask us. |
| Record | The panel keeps the verifications so they can be audited. |
| Who decides what is sold | The regulation of each country and place. Verification settles who is buying, not whether that product may be sold in that format. |
What it settles and what it does not
Age verification checks that the person buying meets the required age. It does not decide which products you may sell in an unattended store or machine: that is set by each country’s regulation, which fixes which products, in what format and with what verification method.
For example, some parapharmacy or vaping items require an age check depending on the country. This guide is information, not legal advice: check with your adviser before selling restricted products.
What the customer sees
- They add an age-restricted product to the cart.
- The system asks them to verify their age before paying.
- A photo of their face and of their document is taken with the phone camera.
- With the result, the system allows or not continuing with that product, and the purchase goes on to payment.
What you do as the operator
- Check what you may sell unattended in your country and under what conditions.
- Mark in your catalogue the products that require an age check.
- Review the verification record in the panel.
